Meet Jesus...Today!
Get to know Him personally
Christianity is not about religion,
but about a relationship with our Creator and Heavenly Father. Our greatest desire is for
people to come to know God personally, and to discover the purpose for which they were
created. To know and experience the Father's love, forgiveness and acceptance. And to walk
with Him in a beautiful intimate exchange of divine friendship. Below are listed some
essentials to becoming a Christian:
1. Admit you are a sinner
- "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23)
- Sin, is not living up to God's loving commandments. Trust me, you have a lot of company
on this one. Sin is the one thing we have in common with every person on the face of the
planet. We do need the mercy of God!
2. Believe that Jesus died for your sins
- "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous,
to bring you to God. " (1 Peter 3:18)
- It is a wonderful and deep truth of the Bible, that Christ died in our place. He,
the innocent One, took upon Himself, the punishment we deserved!
- You may not feel like a great sinner, and you may even be a very moral person, but if
you are trusting your moral goodness to get God's approval, you'll never match up to the
absolute holiness and purity of God. All such reliance upon ourselves is a form of pride,
and overlooks the fact that ALL sin, separates us from God.
3. Turn from your sins
- "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that
times of refreshing may come from the Lord," (Acts 3:19)
- Christianity is more than just saying "sorry" for our sins. It is changing. If
we truly love the Lord and see that our sins grieve Him, how can we go on willfully
breaking His heart? To not change, is the equivalent of a man who pledges his utmost
devotion to his bride, and yet continues to see other women. A heart that turns to God,
will turn from sin.
4. Follow Him
- "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in
him," (Colossians 2:6); Jesus said; "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them,
and they follow me." (John 10:27)
- You know how easy it is to begin something, and yet more challenging to finish it. So it
is in our life with God. Asking Christ into your life is a marvelous beginning, but there
is a path before you to be walked out. He invites you to "follow Him," and
through His Holy Spirit, He will strengthen and enable you to do so.
5. Pray and invite Jesus into your life to be your Savior and
Lord
- "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave
the right to become children of God" (John 1:12); "That if you confess with your
mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the
dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9); "For whosoever shall call upon the name
of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
Growing Into Christian Maturity
(John 8:31) "To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you
hold to [continue in] my teaching, you are really my disciples."
It is important for you to start to grow in your relationship with Jesus. The best way
you can grow and continue in this relationship is through :
- Prayer : Just like any relationship, you need to spend time with
someone if you want to know them well. God is not a religion to be approached through our
"stained glass" eloquence, but is a person who listens and communicates. Talk to
Him the way you would a good friend. Don't be afraid to tell Him your fears and
discouragement. Take time to listen and you will sense His leading in your life.
- The Bible : The Bible is God's love letter to His people. Through its'
pages, God will speak to and encourage you. Let us encourage you to begin by reading
the Gospel of John in the New Testament, then the book of Ephesians. If you don't have a
bible, we'd be happy to send you one.
- Fellowship : Very few are able to follow through on their decision to
follow Christ with out the support and encouragement of other believers. There is a place
of acceptance and love for you at Harvest Fellowship. Here you will find many people who
love God and love people. If you are outside of our area, we would be happy to help you
find a church. Let us know.
- Discipleship : This means to be a student or follower of Christ. A
small group bible study, or a one-on-one get-together with a mature Christian, is a great
way to get a good start, and to work through all the details of your new life. One
resource to assist you is our "Discipleship
Study Guide".
God's richest blessings to you on the journey before you!
