  • Literal translations are helpful for people who want to study each word
  • Paraphrase help people who are new to the Bible understand it
  • Dynamic Equivalence is balancec between accuracy and readibility

Suggestions in choosing a translation:

  • The New American Standard (NASB) Updated edition is about the best for word for word translation, and best for fine doctrinal study. Though formal in its writing style, the 1995 "Updated"edition is very readable.
  • The The New Living Translation (NLT) is a very easy to read translation that is ideal for new Christians, children and teens.
  • The New International Version (NIV) is a very good combination between the two.

TNIV Today's New International Version

Christian Leaders Urge Boycott of TNIV

More than 100 pastors, theologians and ministry heads--have united to sign a statement saying Today's New International Version (TNIV) is not "sufficiently trustworthy to commend to the church." They object to the TNIV's replacing masculine references with gender-neutral expressions in places where they maintain that important meaning is lost. They state; "We cannot endorse the TNIV as sufficiently trustworthy to commend to the church. We do not believe it is a translation suitable for use as a normal preaching and teaching text of the church or for a common memorizing, study, and reading Bible of the Christian community."
